Nature/ Fine Art Flower Class
Posted by Anne on March 26, 2008
When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a flower with the other. (Chinese proverb) – this little proverb was an inspiration as I ordered the materials for my newest class this spring. It is a Fine Art Flower Intro Photography Class – the first Session on April 13th is full! However, April 20th still has a few spaces available. We are going to discover the art of flower photography at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, NC. If you are interested, email me.
Macro photography is a fun way to get close up shots that look stunning. If you want to get technical, the real definition of macro is the image on the film or sensor being as big as the actual subject. The camera lens must have the capability to focus on an area as small as approximately 24×36 mm because this size is the size of the image on the sensor. This is commonly referred to magnification of 1:1.
And, from a creative standpoint, you can break all the rules and discover what you like as an artist. It is such a refreshing feeling to know there is no “wrong” way to photograph a flower! I find the detail in flowers so powerful yet, flexible. Both great traits to capture on film. I will be posting some of my students work on line and in the blog. We are also going to make note cards from the images!
For all my brides reading the blog – my love of Macro photography and flowers (especially) can only mean one thing for you… beautiful detail shots of your bouquet and alter flowers and centerpieces. If you are getting married at Duke Gardens – I have some great idea for shots using flowers as your backdrop… with you and your party. I photography several weddings each year at the Gardens. Being from Asheville, NC, I spent alot of time outdoors walking and hiking and as a photography love shooting in natural light.
On a personal note, I love getting flowers as a special gift – I actually move the vase from room to room as I travel through-out the house so that I can enjoy every moment of the blooms. Does anyone else do this? I am also looking forward to designing and planting new flower beds this spring. Spring is a time of new beginnings and I am ready to experience it. Happy Spring everyone!
